Run For The Oceans

According to recent research, 79,000 tonnes of plastic waste is floating on an island 50 times the size of the Netherlands in our oceans: a threat to fauna, flora and humans. Just like last Friday’s World Oceans Day — a global event dedicated to preserving our oceans — adidas wants to be a driving force behind further awareness of this pollution. It does so with the new UltraBOOST Parley Deep Ocean Blue, a running shoe made from an average of eleven collected and recycled plastic bottles. The Deep Ocean Blue colour adorning the shoe is inspired by the waters of the Mariana Trench, the deepest known point in our seas. Even there, at almost ten kilometres deep, a plastic bag was found last month. adidas and Parley are working together to do something about it: in 2017 they processed no fewer than 11 million plastic bottles into useful products.

Eco-friendly running shoe made from recycled plastic
A revolutionary ecological innovation, the Parley Ocean Plastic, converts that collected plastic waste into a visually attractive material for the upper part of the Primeknit model. This shoe is also equipped with adidas’ iconic BOOST technology, which ensures you get back as much energy as possible when you push off. With the natural rubber Continental outsole you also have the best possible grip, regardless of weather conditions and surface. An NFC chip in the right shoe finally provides the runner with more info about the collaboration between adidas Running and Parley and gives tips on how to minimise plastic use in the future.

Run For The Oceans 2018
You too can put your best foot forward by taking part in Run For The Oceans 2018, adidas’ biggest global event that encourages runners to join together in the fight against plastic pollution. The UltraBOOST Parley Deep Ocean Blue is the official shoe of this initiative. For every kilometre run, adidas donates 1 dollar to knowledge and awareness programmes around the plastic pollution plaguing our oceans.
