What do you like most about teaching at Het Gymlokaal?

At Het Gymlokaal there is a real sense of belonging to a community. People share their passion for sport and exercise and their love for this special place where you can be yourself. I see that a lot of people are coming back week after week which contributes to the growth of this feeling of building something together.

I have always exercised a lot myself and see yoga as a fantastic addition to any sport for health benefit ,mentally and physically, for strength and flexibility. I would like to share that feeling with people who also have a passion for sport and exercise.

What is your background?

I am a certified Vinyasa instructor, i have completed a Yin training, a training as a fitness trainer and at the moment I am studying physiotherapy

What is unique about your lessons / way of teaching?

I like to guide people through different exercises and movements along a circle like story with a beginning, a middle and an end. For that I use breathing exercises, through seating and lying postures, movement to the rhythm of breath, muscle tensing drills , working on strength and flexibility and complete body relaxation training. Through those routines, I try to make people aware of their entire body and how they feel at ‘this moment’. Subsequently they have the tools and possibility to have an impact on it.

What is your specialty in the field of movement?

I give yoga classes to people who have never stood on a yoga mat before and people with many years of experience. In addition, I mix classic yoga with contemporary views on fitness, health and exercise to give people the feeling that every class is suitable for everyone and can make be major contribution to simply, not so simple sometimes,  feel good in your own body and head.

What quality should every good trainer possess?

I think it is important that you look at who you have in front of you every lesson and ask yourself; what do people expect? what do they like? and How much can they handle?

It is also important to adapt your own language and the content of your lesson to the people in front of you.

I believe that observing, listening and adjusting where it is necessary is important, whatever training you offer.

What can people expect from you as a trainer and from your lessons?

An introduction to yoga; whether you have never stood on a yoga mat before or whether you have done it 1000 times already. I like to invite people to explore their own body, breathing and consciousness as if it were the first time for them. Expect peace, movement, challenge, lots of breaths, a healthy dose of humor and the important combination of movement and standing still.

What can you offer / teach people?

Learning to listen to your own body. Working on strength, mobility, flexibility and the art of relaxation.
