				<description>&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Road to HYROX AMSTERDAM&lt;/strong&gt; is a twelve-week journey from motivated to truly race-ready. We kick off with &lt;strong&gt;special classes on Saturday October 18th 2025&lt;/strong&gt; and steadily build towards the HYROX weekend &lt;strong&gt;21–25 January 2026&lt;/strong&gt;. You train in a group, but always at your own level: sharpening technique where needed, picking up the pace when it counts and getting exactly the right stimulus at the right moment.&lt;/p&gt;&#xA;&lt;p&gt;We go through three phases. First the fundamentals: rules and technique, efficient running, smooth transitions and clean work at stations such as sled push/pull, burpee broad jumps, farmer&amp;rsquo;s carry and wall balls. Then we build your engine with HYROX-specific fitness and strength endurance. Expect a real boxing ring, a large crowd and a buzzing atmosphere that takes you on a journey from your own walkout music all the way to the final bell. 				<description>&lt;p&gt;Het Gymlokaal | Het Gymlokaal is expanding in November with a new location in Buiksloterham in Amsterdam-Noord. In addition to the existing branch in Amsterdam-West, members will also be able to work out in a former shipyard with a prominent location on the IJ river. This gives the Buiksloterham area, which is undergoing rapid development, a new boost with a wide choice of sports and yoga classes.&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;Het Gymlokaal established itself five years ago in Amsterdam-West in a vacant school building with a broad and innovative range of sports disciplines. With the aim of exercising in a playful atmosphere with plenty of personal attention. Het Gymlokaal is now ready for a new step and owners Nelleke Verkaart and Nienke van Koolbergen searched for a new location in the city. They settled on the former shipyard on the Grasweg, where De Groene Draeck — the private yacht of former Queen Beatrix — was built, among other things.&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;The choice for Noord was a logical one for us,&amp;rsquo; explains Nelleke. &amp;lsquo;Het Gymlokaal always strives for an authentic experience, and the new premises with their robust, industrial character fits that perfectly.&amp;rsquo; Just like in West, athletes at the new location can choose from, among other things, kickboxing, yoga, cross-training, barre, gymnastics, mobility, movement, capoeira, strength and conditioning training, fitness and personal training.&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;The renovation has already begun. The location will get a large, high studio for group classes such as kickboxing sessions and a second studio for yoga classes. There will also be space for a lounge and a bar. Nienke: &amp;lsquo;Of course you will also find the characteristic look and feel of Het Gymlokaal here, with vintage gymnastics equipment, and we&amp;rsquo;re even getting a boxing ring.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;The former industrial area of Buiksloterham, where Het Gymlokaal is going to be located, has been redeveloped in recent years into a working and residential district and is now the fastest-growing neighbourhood in Amsterdam. Nelleke: &amp;lsquo;With its central location and good ferry connections, Het Gymlokaal will also be easily accessible for sports enthusiasts from other parts of the city. 				<description>&lt;p&gt;Yoram Bemer on his participation in Fight Fans Experience 2018&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;Yoram Bemer, member of Het Gymlokaal and recently also a trainer with us, fought his first kickboxing match during the Fight Fans Experience in 2018. And successfully! For the next edition on October 27th we spoke to Yoram about what it&amp;rsquo;s like to step into the ring and how he prepared.&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;Why did you want to take part in a kickboxing match?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;I started kickboxing at a fairly late age, but I had been training very fanatically for several years by then. I had long wanted to fight; as a challenge for myself, but also especially to experience a competition for once. It seemed to me the ultimate way to experience this beautiful sport.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;How did you prepare?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;The preparation started as early as the end of February last year, because I actually wanted to fight that summer. It just wasn&amp;rsquo;t possible to find an opponent then. I trained seven times a week, spread over five days. The weekend was for rest, but genuinely real rest. I skipped birthdays and parties. I also stopped drinking alcohol. Full focus on the fight. Ultimately it wasn&amp;rsquo;t until October that I could fight. In the last two months, absolutely everything was geared towards that fight: going to bed early, resting a lot, working little and eating extra healthily.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;How did it feel to step into the ring?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;Overwhelming. Together with my coach Malic Groenberg from Het Gymlokaal, who had guided and trained me throughout the whole journey, we stood outside the hall waiting. When my name was called and we walked through the hall towards the ring, there was a deafening roar. Friends, family, acquaintances, training partners, everyone was there. Really something very special to experience. But there was also little time to let it sink in. It all happened in a blur, because a minute later we were in the ring and saw the opponent for the first time.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;Who was standing next to Malic in your corner?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;Marvin Wolff (kickboxing trainer at Het Gymlokaal) and Francois Lubbers from Vos Gym where I also trained a lot. Just before the first bell rang, they gave me a few good tips (&amp;ldquo;your opponent is a bit shorter, stocky and will want to brawl, fight your own game&amp;rdquo;) and provided calm and confidence. During the fight I heard their instructions and that helped enormously. You feel like you&amp;rsquo;re not standing in that ring alone, but fighting as a team.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;Did you have a specific tactic or match plan?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;Not very specific: it was my first official fight and also my opponent&amp;rsquo;s, so there was a good chance it would become a grinding match. I definitely didn&amp;rsquo;t want to go down on a silly punch or kick and thereby fail to show what we had trained so hard for. And of course, try to enjoy it along the way.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;When did you think, this one is mine, I&amp;rsquo;m going to win!&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;The first roughly twenty seconds flew by and I was mainly in my guard. The beginning was his. He had caught me well a few times with body shots and I even broke a rib, but after that I got more and more into my game. When he went down after a minute from an uppercut and received an eight count, I thought I was well on my way. Ultimately he went down once more in the second round and the fight was over.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;And then you won — what went through your mind?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;I was extremely happy! And at the same time it also felt unreal, it all happened so incredibly fast. Super great to celebrate it afterwards with my trainers and everyone who came to watch!&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;Would you want to step into the ring again?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;Yes! It leaves you wanting more. Hopefully at the next Fight Fans!&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;Do you have any tips for our members who are also brave enough to step into the ring on October 27th?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;Train hard, harder, hardest, rest a lot and listen to your coach. You might only do a match like this once, so try to enjoy the preparation, during and after the fight. Even if you lose, you had the guts to step into that ring, trained incredibly hard for it and gave everything. Step into the ring on December 7th during the new Here To Create with Nouchka Fontijn, European Boxing Champion in 2014, silver medallist at the World Championships in 2016, and silver medallist at the Olympic Games in 2016. She has just returned from this year&amp;rsquo;s World Championships and we spoke to her as a warm-up.&lt;/p&gt;&#xA;&lt;p&gt;How did the World Championships go?&lt;br&gt;Simple question with a fairly difficult answer! I won silver, but I also lost gold. In 2016 I had already won silver at the World Championships, so this time I really went for gold. I knew it wouldn&amp;rsquo;t be easy, but that it was possible. It&amp;rsquo;s a shame that I wasn&amp;rsquo;t able to seize this great opportunity. I was very close. Luckily I also realise that I could have been knocked out in the first round and come home empty-handed. Mixed feelings, then.&lt;/p&gt;</description>

This series of clinics kicks off on October 27th with none other than Rico Verhoeven, kickboxing world champion. 				<description>&lt;p&gt;This is how a kickboxer prepares for a fight&lt;br&gt;Kickboxing trainer Noach Blyden of Het Gymlokaal will compete in a match on April 14th in Alphen aan de Rijn. Noach is 25 years old and has been fighting MMA (mixed martial arts) and kickboxing matches for several years. He has fought 20 bouts so far. Read all about the preparations for his fight here.&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;What kind of match are you going to fight?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;A kickboxing fight in the &amp;ldquo;light heavy weight&amp;rdquo; category in the B-class. This is also my last fight in the B-class before I move up to the A-class, the highest class.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;How do you prepare for such a fight?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;Train a lot, at least 5 times a week and twice a day. Luckily I&amp;rsquo;m already at weight, so I don&amp;rsquo;t have to watch what I eat too much this time. I can keep eating well and stay balanced by training a lot and hard.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;Do you watch videos of your opponent?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;No, not really. I get in the ring and then we fight! I always adapt my tactics per fight. I react to the situation and my opponent can&amp;rsquo;t prepare for that. If my opponent thinks he has figured out my tactics, I change them immediately — that way you&amp;rsquo;re always one step ahead.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;Are you going to win?&lt;br&gt;Yes, of course! If you don&amp;rsquo;t believe that yourself, you&amp;rsquo;d better not step into the ring.&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;What do you love most about competing?&lt;br&gt;The adrenaline! It gives such a rush. You walk out and people cheer for you. You&amp;rsquo;ve worked so hard in the preparation and finally you get to go! That&amp;rsquo;s such a huge release!&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;Does the support of the people around you mean a lot to you?&lt;br&gt;Yes, a great deal, and you need it too. I&amp;rsquo;ve dedicated fights to people who are dear to me, but ultimately you do it for yourself. But knowing that people support and encourage you feels good.&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;Can members of Het Gymlokaal come and watch?&lt;br&gt;Absolutely, it will be a real spectacle with multiple fights. On top of that, it&amp;rsquo;s cool to experience one of these gala events. 				<description>&lt;p&gt;On December 15th, Olympic heptathlete Nadine Visser will share her athletics techniques during a clinic at Het Gymlokaal. Nadine is a three-time Dutch champion in hurdles. In 2016 she competed in the Olympic Games in the heptathlon and her focus is now on securing a ticket for the 2020 Games. We spoke to Nadine about how she stays fit for top-level sport and she gives us a sneak peek of what awaits us on December 15th.&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;What do you love about athletics?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;I really enjoy the diversity, which is also why I love doing the heptathlon myself. And I really appreciate the measurability of athletics. You train for centimetres and tenths of seconds and you see it directly on the scoreboard when you&amp;rsquo;ve improved.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;What is your favourite event in the heptathlon and why?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;The 100 metres hurdles is my favourite event. I naturally have a good feel for hurdling and I find the combination of speed and technique really enjoyable and challenging to train.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;What does your week look like?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday I have 2 training sessions, so I&amp;rsquo;m at sports park Papendal from morning until late afternoon and afterwards it&amp;rsquo;s mainly cooking, eating and resting. On Saturday I have a short training session and Wednesday and Sunday are rest and recovery days. On Wednesday and weekends I mainly do fun things or study.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;How do you train beyond the athletics track to get as fit as possible?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;Outside of track sessions I do strength training 3 times a week. I also eat healthily and pay close attention to my protein/carbohydrate intake before and after training. Otherwise, my time away from the athletics track is mainly dedicated to recovery, so I do as little as possible physically.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;How do you prepare for a competition? &lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;Making sure I&amp;rsquo;m well-trained and fit. In the days before the competition I don&amp;rsquo;t train too much anymore, but I keep it specific and sharp. I make sure I eat well. Being rested and fit at the start is the most important thing.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;What are you most proud of?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;The great life I lead through sport and the things I achieve, especially the two seventh-place finishes at the last World Championships.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;What was it like to compete in the Olympic Games?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;A truly amazing and educational experience. Also really fun to watch all athletes compete for once instead of just the track athletes. Unfortunately I was not in good form due to a long injury period, which gave a mixed feeling. I really wanted to perform well there, that&amp;rsquo;s what I had trained for. But luckily there are tournaments every year!&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;What is the ultimate goal for you?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;From next year onwards I want to compete for medals at international tournaments and keep improving myself.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;What sets you apart from other athletes?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;That I can individually qualify for tournaments in 2 events and have achieved a top-8 position in both at the World Championships. I&amp;rsquo;m also a very level-headed and critical athlete.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;What can people expect from the clinic?&lt;br&gt;&amp;lsquo;I&amp;rsquo;m coming to Het Gymlokaal together with top athletics coach Thomas Kortbeek to cover all the ins and outs of athletics. We&amp;rsquo;ll give you an insight into our lives as athletes and how we prepare for tournaments. We&amp;rsquo;ll work on things like your running technique and hurdles technique. In addition, core stability and mobility are very important for athletics. It&amp;rsquo;s really great that we can share our knowledge and experience with you, so that you can apply it in your own training, for example at the gym.&amp;rsquo;&lt;br&gt; &lt;br&gt;Registration opens on December 2nd at 12:00 noon on the schedule.
